About Pirate

Ahoy there, future crew!

The name’s Pirate—yes, that Pirate. Missing half an ear, rockin’ an underbite, and surviving the high seas (well, a hard past) with nothing but my charm and courage. Some call me “Shadow” because I like to stick close to my humans like I’m guarding buried treasure—spoiler alert: you are the treasure.

I arrived in rough shape—skinny, scared, and not sure who I could trust. Other dogs made me nervous at first (hey, they’re big and I was tiny and starving), but after some gentle time and space, I realized they can be pretty fun. Now I romp and play when the mood strikes and occasionally toss a toy around like I know what I’m doing.

I’m still figuring out how to “be a dog.” Couches are confusing (is that a soft wall? a fancy table?), but give me a cozy blanket and I’ll sprawl out like royalty. I don’t really bark much unless coyotes come too close, and sometimes I squeak or whimper to ask for love. My human says I’m polite, watchful, and very good at eye contact—and I do this cute little sit to show I’m paying attention. That usually earns me a treat. (I’m very food motivated. Keep the snacks coming, thanks.)

I’m kennel-trained, learning to go outside with a supportive buddy, and I’m slowly catching on to the leash thing. I prefer when someone comes with me while I do my business—think of it as moral support. I’ll probably grow a bit more, but I’m still small and scrappy—currently 24 lbs and might fill out to around 30-45 lbs.

I’d thrive in a quiet, experienced home with a fenced yard and maybe a confident, friendly dog who can show me the ropes. Kids seem fine, but I haven’t met any tiny ones yet. I do better with slow introductions and gentle humans who give me time and snacks and don’t mind if I need to grow into my full personality.

Oh, and the underbite? That’s just my signature smirk. Every pirate needs a trademark look.

If you’re ready to welcome a loyal, goofy, sensitive pup with a wild backstory and a golden heart, I’d love to come aboard.

Yours in cuddles, kibble, and quiet adventure,
Pirate
