Saving lives around the world, one animal at a time
It all began with the efforts of two individuals with big hearts. Together they were successful in saving over 50 dogs from Mexico and placing them in loving, permanent homes. Their efforts didn’t end there, however. They also worked together to recruit local Mexican volunteers for help in implementing a spay and neuter program, and for help in promoting responsible pet ownership. Other volunteers climbed on board and as of late spring of 2007, the group expanded into a new organization: “Pawsitive Match Rescue”.
In the fall of 2011, Pawsitive Match evolved once more by incorporating as Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation. A Board of Directors was put in place to oversee the new not-for-profit corporation as it continued to grow.
In May 2012 the Canada Revenue Agency granted Registered Charity status to Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation.
Pawsitive Match saves dogs and cats facing life-threatening circumstances in Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Thailand. The animals in our program come from shelters that have no choice but to euthanize due to over-crowding or because they are shutting down, as well as stray animals that have no home. We also help save animals on local reserves and on a case by case basis, we may assist with owner surrenders. In many cases we are the only hope these cats and dogs have, as many shelters come to us when they are out of options. We do not discriminate by age, size, breed, location, etc. We are here to help all animals.
We believe that animals deserve a second chance at a happy life, no matter where they come from.
We believe that animals deserve a second chance at a happy life, no matter where they come from. Pawsitive Match also volunteers with the Canadian Animal Task Force, whereby hundreds of volunteers get together and organize a spay and neuter clinic on our local First Nations reserves.
The Pawsitive Match team has developed a system for our incoming rescue animals. Depending on the circumstances, we initially place animals either at our private shelter, or directly into a private foster home.
Pawsitive Match utilizes the services and expertise of local force-free trainers, behaviour consultants and veterinarians. We also rely on our private foster homes to provide a detailed profile of their foster dog or cat’s personality. The number of foster animals that we allow per household is limited to assure that our adoptable dogs and cats receive an adequate amount of love and attention to begin their rehabilitation and the process of trusting humans again. We provide all supplies and necessary veterinary care for our animals in foster care. We only work with certified force-free trainers and behaviour consultants to set our animals up for success.
We work in conjunction with organizations across Mexico, the United States and local rescues throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation, a registered Canadian charity, is a not-for-profit animal rescue based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We are run independently and made up entirely of a dedicated group of volunteers. We work very hard to save dogs and cats in life-threatening situations and give them a second chance at life. We then focus on placing these amazing animals in the right family and creating what we call a “pawsitive match”.
We have a team comprised of resourceful, talented, experienced and dedicated individuals with the common goal of saving dogs and cats and giving them that second chance.
