FAQ’s when Adopting an Animal from Pawsitive Match in Edmonton

Q. Can I adopt a dog or cat from Pawsitive Match if I live in Edmonton?
Yes! Although Pawsitive Match is located in Calgary, we adopt our dogs and cats to those who live in Edmonton as well.

Q.  Can I talk to someone about the animal before meeting them?
Absolutely!  Our adoption processors can put you in touch with someone who is familiar with the animal you are interested in.  Our team is very good at assessing an animal’s behaviour, needs, and personality quirks, so you can make an informed decision before moving forward with a meet and greet.

Q.  It is difficult to really see what the animal looks like just from a photo.  How can I get a good look at the animal?
Our foster parents love to take lots of pictures and video of their fosters and are happy to share with potential adopters.  We may also be able to arrange video chats so you can meet the dog or cat in real-time.

Q.  Can I meet the animal in person before deciding?
Absolutely.  We prefer new adopters meet the dog or cat at the foster’s home.  This is where the animal is most comfortable and relaxed so you can get a better idea of their personality.

Q.  Can I take the animal home right away?
No, sorry.  We have a strict policy about on-the-spot adoptions.  Adopting an animal should not be a quick decision based on emotion.  We require a waiting period to give the adopter time to be sure they, and everyone in the house, are confident this is the right pet for you.

Q.  Can the animal I am considering be adopted during the waiting period?
Absolutely not! We will hold the animal during the waiting period so you have time to think it through without feeling any pressure.

Q.  Can I take the animal back home with me just to see how they fit in at my home before purchasing them?
No, we do not allow trials or overnight stays with our dogs or cats.

Q.  Will the puppy training rebate still apply to me if I don’t live in Calgary?
Yes.  Just provide us proof you have signed your puppy up for training classes and we will send you a rebate.

Q.  In order to qualify for the puppy training rebate do I have to use a trainer in Calgary?
No, you can use a puppy trainer or obedience class in Edmonton.

Q. Will I get a discount on the cost of the animal to cover my gas?
Sorry, we are not able provide discounts to cover your travel.  We wish we could but, being a non-profit, our prices are already as low as we can go.

Q.  What if I already have a dog or cat?  Do they have to meet the new pet before I can adopt them?
We prefer that new pets meet your current fur-babies before adoption.

Q. Does my entire family need to come visit the animal?
Yes.  We think its best for everyone who will be living with your new pet visit the animal before adopting.

Q.  What if my newly adopted pet needs to see the vet?
We will often cover vet costs during the first 48 hours after adoption, as long as you first contact our Medical Team for approval and visit the designated Pawsitive Match partner veterinarian.  Currently, we do not have any partner vets in Edmonton.  Until we do, you will have to come to our vet in Calgary. (This applies only for emergency visits in the first 48 hours post adoption).
