About Ohtani
My name is Ohtani, and I’m on the hunt for my forever home—a place where I can be loved, understood, and continue blossoming into the amazing companion I was born to be.
My foster family calls me affectionate and loving, and I tend to agree. There’s nothing better than snuggling on the couch, getting head rubs, or basking in the warmth of human love. I’ve even mastered the fine art of lap-sitting, even though, yes, I know I’m huge.
Life wasn’t always full of comfort and kindness, so I’m learning new things every day, like walking nicely on a leash, sitting patiently while my paws are wiped, and being polite around other dogs. Sometimes I growl when I’m unsure about other male dogs or strangers, but my foster family has been working with me using positive reinforcement, and I’m making great strides. I’ve discovered that treats and praise are pretty great motivators—what can I say? I’m a people-pleaser at heart.
I live with three cats, and while I don’t pay them much mind, squirrels are a different story—they’re just so fascinating! I’ve also been told I have a “big woof,” which comes in handy when protecting the house. But don’t worry, I’m not overly vocal and usually reserve my bark for when it matters.
Due to a shoulder injury that’s still healing, I’m on a bit of a limited exercise plan—just one 30-minute walk a day and some gentle play with my foster dog sibling. I dream of the day when I can explore more of the great outdoors, but for now, I’m content sniffing around and enjoying quiet walks in Fish Creek Park.
My ideal home would have a big yard to stretch my legs, another dog to be my buddy, and patient humans who can guide me with love and consistency. I might not be suited for an apartment or attached housing—I’m a big boy with a big presence, and I thrive in spaces where I can truly relax.
Oh, and a little heads-up: I adore my people so much that I might whine a little when they leave, but I settle quickly and behave like the gentleman I am. I also don’t love my crate, but I’ll go in if I have to—it’s just not my favorite.
If you’re an experienced dog owner who understands the beauty of second chances and can provide me with a stable, loving environment, I know we’ll make a perfect match. I have so much love to give and can’t wait to find my forever family.
