About Ohtani
Hi, I’m Ohtani (yes, like the baseball star—no big deal), and I’m currently interviewing for the position of “Best Dog You’ve Ever Had.” Based on my resume, I think I’m more than qualified. Let me tell you a little about myself.
First things first: I’m a big, gentle lovebug with a heart almost as big as my paws. My favorite activities include cuddling, lounging, following my people from room to room, and snuggling up wherever you are—especially if there’s a comfy couch or bed involved. I’m what the humans call a “low-energy shadow” kind of guy. I’m happy to match your pace, whether it’s hanging around the house or a slow stroll around the block.
I get along great with other dogs—I made fast friends with the pup in my foster home and the other dogs I’ve met. I’ve even lived with cats, and while I mostly ignore them, I do have a strong opinion about squirrels (they need to be chased. Period). I haven’t been around young kids, but I lived with two teenage girls who adored me. I’m a big fella (clocking in at 79 pounds of handsome), so smaller kids might get bowled over by my enthusiastic greetings and tail wags—but I mean well, I promise!
Now, I do have a few quirks, but nothing too wild. I’m working on my leash reactivity. Sometimes I get worried when I see another dog out walking, but my foster family and a behaviorist have been helping me learn better ways to handle those moments. Spoiler: I will do literally anything for a piece of hot dog. I’ve also got a bit of a “dead weight” move I pull when I don’t want to go somewhere, but a happy voice and a treat usually get me moving.
I’ve got a few cool tricks up my sleeve too! I sit and wait like a champ—whether it’s for food, to go out the door, or to get my feet wiped when I come inside. I’ve been working on recall (only in my fenced yard for now), and I’ve gotten used to my crate, even if I’d much rather be cuddling.
Health-wise, I’ve got elbow dysplasia and will need surgery, but after that, the vet says I’ll be ready for a life full of adventure. Until then, my walks are short and sweet, and my playtime is mellow. I dream of the day I can go on longer walks or even hikes—anywhere my people go, I want to go too.
I’d thrive in a calm, quiet home with a fenced yard and a human (or two) who are home a lot. Another dog to hang out with would be the cherry on top. I’m gentle, silly, affectionate, and just really, really happy to be loved. If you’re looking for a dog who’s a little goofy, a lot cuddly, and always ready to share the couch and his heart—you just found him.
So… what do you say? Wanna be my forever home?
With love and a wagging tail,
Ohtani
